It comes time to tear down the car so that it can be reinforced, resuspended, repowered, and reborn.
I split the dismantling and mangling portion into three parts because there were just too damn many pictures. This is part 1.
To start, I removed seats, all the junk from the trunk, and I think the dash. Here is the car up on jacks.
Empty trunk with wrenches, and the tire hold down. You can see how much of my teeny trunk was taken up by the tire.
Here is where the filler tube passes through the floor and connects to the tank. The filler tub is attached on either end by some hose clamps.
And where it clamps to the filler neck.
The cap outside. That rubber grommet has to come off, and it can be removed.
Dark interior with no seats. You can see all the junk I had jammed under my passenger seat.
More sunlit driver's side. All that crap on the carpet is from the burlap in the seat bottoms that is deteriorating.
The parcel tray, with my registration and insurance card safely in a cd sleeve.
Drivers side, side marker light. The previous owner filled the marker holes with bondo, but they were cracking when I got the car, so I just removed it and put back in the markers.
Just pointing out the rear battering ram mount. Kind or irritating how much trunk space I lose to them.
Though it doesn't seem like much, it's a lot in a small trunk.
Passenger side bumper reinforcement. You can see the fume return line hose, and the top of the gas tank.
Here's the gas tank out of the car. I will probably end up selling it, but I may as well keep it for use as a template for now.
The filler and vent hole as seen from below.
Other side of the trunk floor. The part that is still nice and black is where the gas tank protected it.
Another shot of where the tank once hung.
One more. I really don't know why I took so many.
A shot of the axle from behind. This will eventually come off.
Driver's side rear suspension.
Passenger side rear suspension.
The front spring perch is actually bolted through the floor.
Here is the empty front of the car. I started removing the wiring.
Here is the kind of messy wiring on the drivers side of the engine bay.
Shows the end of the old bumper reinforcements which will also have to come out.
Wiring above the passenger side footwell.
Middle of the dash harness.
Driver's side under dash area.
Three bolts hold in the top frame on either side.
They also secure the trim panels on either side.
You can see the canvas garage keeping my project out of the elements.
The car, well on its way to being stripped.
There are two more installments. Later on I start removing more stuff, like the bumper mounting rails in the engine compartment. Stay tuned.
